If your plumbing has been a cause for concern lately, you may be in need of an inspection. Serious plumbing problems can't always be identified with a simple visual inspection. Sometimes they need a detailed inspection that only a plumber can provide. Take a look at the list provided below. If you recognize any of these issues, you need to schedule an inspection.
If you have hard water in your home, you probably have a very distinct line around the inside of your toilet bowl. That line can actually provide you with some insight into your plumbing. When there's nothing wrong inside the pipes or with the plumbing, water should fill to that line each time the toilet is flushed.
When problems arise, the water may be considerably lower than the line. The water may even come dangerously close to the upper edge of the bowl. Water level fluctuations in the toilet bowl can be a sign of serious plumbing issues that only an inspection may identify.
Water leaks can be difficult to find, especially those that are hidden in the walls. For those types of plumbing problems, you need to let your eyes, ears, and nose tell the story. If you suspect that you have a water leak in your kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room, watch for the signs.
First, check to see if the walls or ceiling have changed color. Water leaks inside the walls or ceiling often cause yellow or green discoloration. Next, listen for the sound of running water from behind the walls. Finally, sniff for the odor of mold. If you notice any of those issues, call a plumber right away.
If your hot showers have been interrupted by poor water pressure, the first thing you need to do is check your shower head, especially if you have hard water. Your shower head could be clogged with hard water deposits that have blocked the water flow. You could also have an outdated low-flow shower head that needs to be replaced.
However, if you've determined that those issues are not the cause for your low water pressure, you need to look deeper.
You expect your toilet to make some noise during a flush. However, you don't expect to hear loud belches after the flush or when the bathroom faucet is turned on. Toilet belches can be stressful, especially when they begin to occur on a regular basis.
These belches are often a sign that there's a clog in the main sewer line. This is particularly true when belches are accompanied by sewage backups or by overflows from adjacent toilets. As soon as the belches begin, a plumber needs to get a closer look at your pipes.
Your water bill is one of the easiest ways to determine when you need a plumbing inspection. Water bills normally fluctuate throughout the year. This fluctuation coincides with your water usage. If your water bill suddenly spikes at a time when your water usage is low, there's a strong likelihood that you have a problem with your plumbing. This is particularly true if your water bills have gone up while you were away from home on an extended vacation.
